GHK-Cu · Topical

Glycyl-L-Histidyl-L-Lysine Copper

Focused on the application area.

4 studies cited

Noticed in days · Full benefit in weeks

Week 1-2

Better skin hydration and reduced redness typically noticed in application area.

Week 2-4

Skin texture typically begins improving. Fine lines start softening.

Month 1-2

Visible improvement in fine lines and skin elasticity commonly reported in treated area.

Month 2-3

Cumulative collagen-building effects. Typically strongest with consistent microneedling.

Focused on the application area. Fine lines, hydration, wound healing, and skin texture. Typically most effective when combined with microneedling to improve skin penetration. Without microneedling, absorption is limited to the upper layers.

What to know

  • Patch test before first use to check for copper sensitivity
  • Avoid application on open wounds unless directed by a clinician
  • May cause skin purging (temporary breakouts) before improvement
  • Store away from direct sunlight
  • Limited systemic absorption without microneedling
HOW IT WORKS

How GHK-Cu works

GHK-Cu binds copper ions and delivers them to cells, activating pathways involved in collagen production, antioxidant defense, and tissue remodeling. Research shows it modulates the expression of over 4,000 genes, many related to wound healing, immune response, and inflammation. It promotes new blood vessel formation and increases production of decorin, a protein essential for skin structure.

BEST FOR

Key benefits

  • Reduces systemic inflammation
  • Promotes collagen synthesis and skin regeneration
  • Accelerates wound healing and tissue repair
  • Supports hair growth and thickness
  • Modulates 4,000+ genes related to aging
  • Restores a naturally declining peptide
REGULATORY STATUS

Regulatory status

Injectable GHK-Cu is FDA Category 2. Not currently scheduled for FDA pharmacy compounding advisory committee review. Topical GHK-Cu is already Category 1 and can be legally compounded.
